Tech Prep enables students to complete a cohesive, articulated sequence of integrated academic and technical course work. Students who follow the entire Tech Prep pathway begin with applied academic courses and continue their studies in an associate degree program at one of Maines
community colleges. Students can then enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year college or university.
Tech Prep provides students with comprehensive career development by offering them the chance to explore different career areas and develop definite goals and interests. Tech Prep encourages students to see their high school diploma as the foundation for future learning.
The four major components of a tech prep program:
- Applied Academics - Introduces a new teaching strategy that promotes hands-on, experiential and contextual learning.
- Career Guidance and Development - A clear understanding of career options.
- Articulation - A bridge between the secondary school program and an associate degree progress that prepares students with technical skills for employment or to pursue a baccalaureate degree. The Articulation Process provides an opportunity for students to earn
Community College credit while in high school.
- Business/Industry Involvement -Collaboration between the school and members of the business community which provide work-base learning experiences through experiential education.
